I’ve photographed Weddings at Hazlewood Castle many times over the years and it never fail to impress, and Sarah and Paul’s day was no exception to this.
From the peaceful bridal prep to twilight portraits in the woodland, it was a beautifully relaxed celebration.
Set just outside York and Leeds, Hazlewood Castle offers a perfect mix of history and nature.
But what made this day special was the couple’s easygoing style and love for the outdoors and a totally chilled day.
Bridal Prep in the Castle
Sarah and Paul booked part day coverage from me and so I arrived an hour before the ceremony.
Her dress was timeless, a floaty, A-line gown with soft layers and delicate flow.
It moved beautifully as she walked, light and graceful, just like the rest of the day.
Her hair was styled wonderfully with gentle curls and pinned back to reveal a radiant smile.
A Woodland Ceremony with Heart
The ceremony took place in the woods in the grounds of Hazlewood Castle.
It’s a setting that feels more like a fairytale than a wedding venue.
Tall trees surrounded guests, creating a natural aisle lined with rustic benches.
Paul waited incredibly calmly, looking sharp as ever.
As Sarah walked down the woodland path with her dad and bridesmaids (not a short walk either), the trees swayed gently and the light filtered through making for some lovely imagery.
It was quiet, meaningful, and full of joy. The couple exchanged vows beneath the tress, surrounded by nature and all their loved ones.
Confetti, Cheer, and Group Photos
After the ceremony came confetti—lots of it.
Everyone lined the path, and the woods exploded with colour and cheers as Sarah and Paul walked through.
Then it was time for group photos, canopies and fizz.
Against the woodland backdrop every image looked like a postcard wonderland.
The mood stayed very relaxed, no stiff poses, just real moments and plenty of smiles and luaghs from the guests who were so great to work with.
Portraits Among the Trees
Later, I slipped away with the couple for portraits.
The woods at Hazlewood Castle offer endless backdrops—dappled light, winding paths, and at this time of year Bluebells and the most amazing avenue of blossom trees.
Sarah’s dress caught the breeze just enough, while Paul kept close, sharing quiet laughs. Nothing felt forced. Their natural connection was easy to capture.
These kinds of relaxed portraits are a dream for any wedding photographer in York or Leeds.
Hazlewood Castle makes it effortless.
Drinks in the Woods
While guests enjoyed drinks tucked beneath the trees, music played and conversation flowed.
It felt more like a garden party than a wedding—exactly the vibe that Sarah and Paul wanted.
Rustic barrels served as tables, and fairy lights began to glow as the light softened.
There were no tight schedules. Just good company, great weather, and that peaceful woodland vibe.
Heartfelt (Fun) Speeches
The wedding breakfast took place in the marquee.
Softlight flickered across the tables, and laughter filled the space.
The speeches were heartfelt but relaxed.
Paul’s words had everyone smiling, while Sarah’s dad shared just the right amount of sentiment.
It’s in these quieter moments that Hazlewood Castle’s charm really shines.
First Dance and Evening Fun
As the evening kicked off, the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance.Guests soon joined in, dancing well into the night.
The relaxed atmosphere carried through, with no pressure—just fun.
Twilight Magic in the Woods
Before the night ended, I set up some lighting for a few evening shots in the woods.
The woods, now gently lit, felt even more romantic.
These final images captured the stillness of the evening and the joy of the day.
These moments are what make Hazlewood Castle wedding photography so rewarding.
It’s easy to create something special when the surroundings and the couple are this chilled and inspiring.
