IT’s your day

it’s your day…

it’s not about the photographer

As a wedding photographer we’ve been asked in the past how to describe ‘what we do’. It’s hard to put into words, so to put simply…..

It’s  Your day – it’s about you and  not about the photographer – and that’s the big difference between our services and many other photographers.

So when you look at other professional photographers websites do they give you all the information you need to help you make an informed decision about recording all the details of the most important day of your life? When you meet with them for the first time do they fill you with confidence that you can trust them with your special day? Do they know the rush of emotion that will overwhelm the groom when he turns around at the ceremony when the bride walks down the aisle to join him?

I remember my wedding day and the incredible rush when Tracy walked down the aisle. Yes, I held back the tears, but only just! You cannot photograph a wedding professionally without this emotion. No, I don’t cry when I’m photographing weddings but that same sense of emotion is there – it’s why I do the job I do. I love it, it’s what gives me a buzz.

A professional wedding photographer doesn’t just produce images for your album, he’s there to help guide you through the entire day. So photographer, wedding coordinator, crowd control and direction – it’s all part of the job and that’s why you need someone you can trust and most importantly someone you like and can get on with. The photographer could be spending the whole day with you remember!

It seems every week I talk to a client who’s sister or brother has got married and was disillusioned with the wedding photographer. Either they were too bossy, missed the key shots or provided an album that didn’t meet expectations. Worse still I’ve heard of horror stories where the photographer got a better offer for the day and just didn’t turn up! One thing you will notice is that all our prices are on our website. No ‘From’ prices, no ‘call for price’ details. Why waste your time in meeting only to find out that the photography packages offered aren’t within your budget. At the other end of the price spectrum, what does cheap give you? Is it better value than someone who is more expensive but has backup equipment, is fully insured, runs the business full time and has the experience to photograph your wedding?

Martin Hillary Photography is a full time business, which means I can be contacted any time. It means I can put those extras hours in to create you a fabulous and completely unique wedding album. I carry backup equipment so if anything goes wrong with my camera, or my flash units I have spares and I don’t miss a moment of your day. I have public liability and professional indemnity insurance – many venues won’t allow a photographer at their venue without it. Put all this into context and suddenly, the cheap photographer doesn’t sound such good value any more, especially if anything goes wrong. When you look at our wedding packages you will notice that they are all example packages. Every wedding is unique so why would you expect a ‘one size fits all’ wedding package? We can tailor our packages to your requirements. After all, why pay for something that you simply don’t need.
